The challenge
Monginis Cake Shop needed to take orders online in a way that matched how customers actually order: by describing the cake they want, not by picking from a fixed list. A conventional store with size-and-flavour dropdowns could not represent a bespoke cake order, which is a significant part of what the shop sells.
The solution
We built an ordering platform centred on a custom cake builder, where a customer specifies occasion, size, flavour, message and design preferences rather than choosing a product SKU. Orders flow into a single queue the shop can act on, with status updates visible to the customer so they can track an order from confirmation to delivery. PayPal handles payment.
How the project was delivered
Discovery
We sat with the shop staff and recorded how bespoke orders were taken over the phone, so the digital flow mirrored a process they already knew worked.
Design
The cake builder was designed as a guided sequence — occasion, then size, then flavour, then personalisation — so a customer never has to construct a query in their head.
Development
Vue.js front end with Firebase backend for real-time order state, and PayPal for payment processing.
Launch
Deployed with mobile-first performance, since most orders are placed from a phone by someone already on their way to the shop.
The outcome
Customers can place a detailed bespoke order without a phone call, and the shop receives orders in a consistent, complete format it can act on immediately.
